What is skill matrix?
Skill matrix is table, used to visually identify varying levels of ability in an organized way. To improve focused training plans to maximize flexibility and to enhance the development of every individual.
Skill matrix is simple visual tool to help in the management, control and monitoring of skill levels of each employee or selected employee as human resources defined for analysis and improvement to focus on particular areas / department. In this table, all the tasks & skills required to work in an area / team will be managed and display of each team members where each employee's competency / ability levels for each task are mentioned.
What is a skills matrix used for? Skill matrix applications
- Skill matrix provides quick identify of each employee's current available skills and future requirements.
- To establishment of skills requirements at all workplaces / or each employee associated at appropriate workplace.
- To examine each employee's strengths & weaknesses.
- Its planning tool used to deployment of employee as skills needs at appropriate locations.
- The skill matrix helps to identify and highlights training needs. As well as monitoring on training effectiveness.
General Work Floor Procedure
- The Work Study Department shall be responsible to maintain two skill inventory reports of all employees directly involved in production, as follows:
- a) Machine / equipment / devices / instrument operators inventory
- b) Helpers / under training inventory
- All operators' machine skills and operation skills shall be continuously monitored by the Work Study Department and the inventory shall be updated on monthly basis.
- The human resources department shall be responsible to submit the present grade for all new employees on a monthly basis.
- The inventory shall be updated based on time study/capacity study or grading test.
- The Skill inventory shall be maintained by the Work Study Department. And also relevant department shall be maintained hard or soft copy.
