Safety committee is team by generating from fairly workmen & management’s peoples. Who joint in one committee to discuss various safety & concern issues. As open forum for discussion on both sides’ views. Traditionally there are discussing openly about safety & its concern issues such as accidents, near misses, safety equipment. There is also discussion on safety equipment, machinery, tool and MSDS related issues, used and requirements. Safety committee can change the process, procedure for improvement of safety in organization.

How to make a safety committee?

  1. Purpose of safety committee should be established for secure work environment at plant level as well as focus on health & safety of employees to meet standard requirements.
  2. Safety committee makes an interest to people who work on floor from bottom to top management. The people aware of requirements to enhance safety & health issues, awareness and training. On basis responsibility preventing accidents & critical issue to avoid losses in works area.
  3. On some level open forum discussion exposed safety & health issues in organization. That can help to get possible solution to concern safety & health.
  4. Most important part of safety committee is motivate members to finding queries & help to craft solutions, reduce risk level in work area for decrease injuries & illnesses in organization.
  5. How will members of safety committee to be select?. at least 50% workmen required in safety committee little tolerance is acceptable.
  6. What frequency of the meetings, which kinds of issues are mostly discusses are base on organizations structure & type of industry.

Core Team:

Responsibility

  • To conduct meeting at least once in quarter.
  • To share the concerned related to Environment, Health & safety system to top management.
  • Report unsafe conditions and suggest corrective actions at appropriate locations, equipment, machine.
  • Review incidents, near misses, Supervisor’s Accident Investigation Reports, claim summaries and loss analysis on a periodic basis.
  • Review all serious injuries. Not for fault-finding, but for fact finding to prevent a re-occurrence of the same or similar incident.
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions for improvements in safety.
  • Work safely and influence others to work safely.
  • Make periodic facility safety audits.
  • Sponsor and coordinate contests, poster programs, safety drives; etc., and supply other informational materials which can help to promote safer operations.
  • Develop, implement, and review written safety programs.
  • Build enthusiasm for safety programs.
  • Direct involvement with organizational wide safety training.
  • Establish dispute resolution procedures.
  • Propose and create safety checklists.
  • Identifying high-risk job tasks and developing written safe operating
Accountability
  • Not conducted the safety meeting
  • Not discussed any point / accident on Environment, Health & safety system
  • Not taken effective actions

 

Management Peoples

Safety committee must aware about current issues and critical area, works & items which deal during operations. Critical issues with corrective actions should be on top priority for discussion, reason that abstract of this meeting to continual improvement of safety & health issues solutions.
