Safety officer inspection checklist

Safety office inspection is conducted internal audit at plant level for all concerned departments where environment, health and safety system are needs to implemented, the procedures, instructions and all related activities should be conducted OSHA accordingly. The safety audit or safety inspection by safety officer is conducted regularly which is specifically designed and appointed to conduct and implement this task hence the plant operation should not disturb due to any potential as well as minor risks.

What is responsibility of safety officer?

Safety officer is responsible for establishment for planning and scheduling as well as executing internal audit as per frequency defined by management representative i.e. according to system., and responsible for conduct periodic inspection at the floor level, identification of potential risk, and implementation of reported high risk reduction. The general responsibilities are:

Safety officer is responsible for the day to day management and operation of internal / plant concern activities within designated area.
Identification of relevant hazards and assess the related risks at all the locations of plant, to which persons who are not employees may be exposed and ensure that persons who are directly affected by activities within location of responsibility are not exposed to any hazards to their safety.
Training and capabilities in respect of safety system. Provide information, instructions, training or supervision that is necessary to enable them to perform their task safely.
To ensure compliance at all locations / plants according to safety system.
All safety equipment is maintained in a good condition and properly utilised.
Reporting any treat of potential risk to the safety of any employee to the person in immediate change of working place or machinery / equipment in query.

Different between safety audit and safety inspection?

Safety audit is conducted by qualified internal auditors as per audit scheduled and defined frequency by management in the internal management system, the safety audit is conducted to considering the procedures, work instructions and activities which can be quarterly or six monthly, and its reporting and audit compliances are managed by department head. Hence the safety inspection is regular process which is conduct daily, weekly or half monthly which is very deep and floor level inspection where all the activities are monitored by safety officer, verify daily records, activities and processes to identify risks, hazards and treats which can harm to system requirements i.e. environment, people health and violate system requirements. In short the safety inspection is more often than safety audit and deep process. Safety inspection is also part of safety system but helps to identification and manage potential risks and reducing the levels.
